Sunway Lagoon

Background: Sunway Lagoon is one of the biggest theme parks in Malaysia, housing 5 theme parks within the same location. These parks are the Water Park, Amusement Park, Wildlife Park, Scream Park and Extreme Park. The most common ticket offer combines Water Park, Amusement Park and Wildlife Park in a single day entry. The other is for all 5 parks within a single day entry. There's also individual park entry but this is not so economical since you can cover more attractions in a day by paying a slightly higher amount of RM.

How to get there: The landmarks to this place are the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall and the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa. I borrowed this map and coloured the Sunway Lagoon in blue :P
Anyhow, once you reach the Sunway township there'd be many signboards leading towards this area so it's really hard to miss. However, it's worth noting that this place suffers from traffic jams, mostly on weekdays.

The Journey
The visit to Sunway Lagoon was upon receiving an invitation from a dear friend. I was up to it, as it was years ago since the last time I set foot there. Moreover, I was no longer scared to ride the rollercoasters as I was many years ago. Not scared, eh? Well, maybe not so much. Whatever! I was game to enjoy myself.

Water Park - Waters of Africa
We started with the Water Park, which was divided into Waters of Africa and Surf Beach. All the water rides and pool were named based on the places in Africa, and even the toilets were decorated as such.

About the rides....
We warmed up with Cameroon Climb. It was a pretty simple, straightforward ride. Looks like it, right? The thing is, this pic that I showed you didn't include the ascending end of the trail. It's sort of a 'U' shape at the end. To get to the top end, we've got to push our weights and slide down really fast. Err, the both of us were normal adequately nourished people so yeah, we got up quite high!
African Python was great too. It was dark the first half of the slide, which I thought added up to the thrill, bringing memories like being in the stomach of a python :O Congo Challenge was a blast! We're individually sliding down headlong, out in the open, fluctuating on the slide. I lurveee Congo Challenge! Totally thrilling!
Other than those, there were the Zambezi River encircling the area, as well as Kalahari Kids and Little Zimbabwe for the children. The wave pool near the Victoria Falls was a big hit. There were shows at a hut near the wave pool some time in the afternoon.

Water Park - Surf Beach
Somehow, we didn't spend much time at the Surf Beach side. There were many people around, mostly playing with each other in the water. The Surf Beach pool had tides coming every other time, so people in there got 'waved' over. There's a water slide, and you can play beach soccer or volleyball. One of the popular attractions was the FlowRider - a surf simulator. It wouldn't hurt (so much) to try your skills at it ;-)

Note: There were at least 2 souvenir shops in the area, one near the Zulu Walk and the other near the entrance to the Surf Beach. It's worth taking a look should you plan on buying some mementos.

Amusement Park - Wild Wild West
Like Water Park, the Amusement Park was split into 2 themes which were Wild Wild West and World of Adventure. There's the Games Arcade and carousel along the way but we skipped that and headed for the rides.
Buffalo Bill Coaster was simple fun. Niagara Falls Flume Ride was full of suspense, especially when the 'log' we're in was slowly brought up to the top of the waterfall. And then, whoosh we went! Colorado Splash was speedy, as the slide was pretty steep. As for the Grand Canyon River Rapids...we didn't try that one out.

Amusement Park - World of Adventure
We carried on towards the World of Adventure section. Since we're kinda tired already, we just went for those rides with high thrill-o-meter and left out those child's play ones like the Wagon Wheel, Pirate's Revenge and Apache Pots
The highlights were the Lost City of Gold and Tomahawk. The Lost City of Gold maybe one of the most thrilling rollercoaster rides there, but the scary factor could not beat that of the Tomahawk. At the Tomahawk ride we were swung forward, backward, forward and backward 180°, and then forward 360° and after that backward 360°. OH MY GOD, I couldn't breathe!! And guess what? Tomahawk was my friend's favourite ride, gah!

Wildlife Park
To cool ourselves down and get our heads leveled again, we then went for a walk around Wildlife Park and enjoyed the nature at its simulated best. There were a couple of bears, colourful birds like parrots and peacocks, swans, fishes, snakes, cats and many more. The Wildlife Park was segmented into several areas, but one that might be of interest to the learning children could be the Pet Village where they can interact closely with tame animals like rabbits and ponies.

Phew! That was a long day at the Sunway Lagoon. The parks were meant to cater for good, clean fun activities and I think these parks managed to do that for the target audience. The rides were okay too but they didn't really stop your heart from beating (except for Tomahawk). Hhmm...maybe since I've experienced some nervewracking ones elsewhere and hence I was feeling kinda brave @_@. A million thanks to my friend for extending this invite to me. Muackss! xoxo
