Sentosa Island

So yeah, this post was supposed to come out before Universal Studios Singapore (USS) but then again I got a whole lot of backdated adventures to share that I took the liberty to pick and choose...some say prioritise.

Sentosa Island was the main entertainment spot in Singapore, more so when USS came to town. Me and my friends..we explored anything and anywhere. Life's an adventure, kan? ;-)

How to get there:

Get to the Harbour Front station by either bus, taxi or MRT. Anyhow, the landmark for this place is the Vivo City shopping mall.
  • If you're taking the MRT, get on the North-East Line to reach the Harbour Front MRT station, which is inside/under the Vivo City. To get to the island, just transfer to Sentosa Express which is at Level 3, Vivo City. You can walk along Sentosa Boardwalk from Vivo to the island too, if you want.
  • Buses or taxis should drop you off right in front of the mall. Actually, you can get the taxi to bring you straight to Sentosa. There's no more Sentosa Bus, that's the latest news I heard. Else you can also drive, and there'll be parking charges.
  • An alternative, fun way is to take the Jewel Box cable car from Mount Faber.

The Journey
Sentosa refers to the island itself and all attractions located within it. Come, let's explore!

Back then we took the Sentosa Bus, and it dropped us right off the Beach Station. Boy, weren't we early! There weren't so many people yet, and it seemed that we could finish off all attractions quite quickly.
Note: On top of the entrance fee, most of the popular attractions here have separate admission fees. There were some package offers for combination areas, so just take your pick.

The Beaches
These were the Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong beaches. It's 10am...still early to get wet and so we skipped that part of the island. One main attraction here would be the stage for Songs of the Sea.  It's a light, sound and pyrotechnic show, performed at 7:40pm and 8:40 daily. Extra show at 9:40pm, available on Saturdays and special days.
There were Megazip (aka flying fox), Skyline Luge Sentosa and Flying Trapeze, which were truly for adrenaline junkies. These were the things I'd normally take on, but we decided to move on to other attractions first.

Siloso Point
Off we went on a bus tour around the area, on the way to Underwater World. It's a large aquarium, with a touchpool (for people to touch starfish, etc.) and a 'tunnel' under the sea.

Outside, there's the Dolphin Lagoon. There weren't any dolphins on sight, just fur seals. Bummer! :(

Not too far from the area was the Fish Reflexology area. Too many people queuing, bummer! Another attraction was the Fort Siloso tour, talking about old Singapore history. Perhaps it'd be interesting to other tourists, but not so much to us.

Imbiah Lookout
Off we went to seek further amusements. We passed by the Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom, Nature Walk, the Images of Singapore museum and Tiger Sky Tower during the bus rides. These attractions were very much family-oriented and not ultimately engaging for us. We snapped some photos of the Merlion and then we went to catch the Sentosa 4D Magix show. It was entertaining indeed, incorporating the elements of touch to heighten the audience senses. 4D shows are quite common nowadays.

As for the remaining areas of the island, Serapong houses the Sentosa Golf Club while Resorts World Sentosa and USS were yet to open then (as I went there in 2009).

That's all I have for Sentosa. I wished I have more excitements to share but that's just about it. We completed our visit within 4 hours or so...that's pretty short for a theme park visit. Anyhow, I came over to experience USS exactly a year after this visit and made a rave review about it in another post ;)
